Bevin Cohen

Bevin is a passionate seed saver, author, farmer, and friend of Baker Creek. Bevin and his wife Heather are co-founders of the Central Michigan Seed Swap. They developed the concept for the MI Seed Library, now with more than 70 independently operating sites statewide. They also own and operate Small House Farm, in Sanford, Michigan. 

Monik Folkman

Monik is a photographer, designer, and social media master for Baker Creek. She lives in Florida with her husband and their toddler, Emma, who is frequently very eager to help her mom with work projects. 

Shannon McCabe

Shannie is a gardener and writer for Baker Creek. She is a graduate of the University of Rhode Island with a bachelor’s degree in horticulture and sustainable agriculture. She lives in Florida, where the year-round growing season is like a dream come true after years of gardening in her native Rhode Island. 

Kathy McFarland

Kathy is a former English teacher and lifelong gardener who likes to read, write, travel and do most anything outdoors. She is a staff writer and editor for Baker Creek.

Michelle Johnson

Michelle is a journalist and writer with decades of experience in public media and print and digital publishing. She produces the YouTube series “Seed Stories,” which are also featured on She thinks of her work as love letters to heirloom varieties.

Laura Stilson

Laura combines her love of gardening with her creative sensibilities and mastery of photography to create stunning images of heirloom varieties that you will find on After years of running a studio in Petaluma, Calif, she and her family fled the rat race, settling on a 34-acre farm in Ozark, Mo., where they garden and tend to a menagerie of dogs and chickens. Laura is staff photographer for Baker Creek Heirloom Seed Co.
